My sister gave me Beeswax Wraps from The Beeswax Wrap Co as a Christmas present. As a busy Mum, I was a little skeptical that these would be a viable alternative to cling film but I can tell you I’m now a convert.
What are Beeswax Wraps?
As it says on the packet, they’re a reusable, plastic free cling film alternative. These ones, are made from organic cotton with UK beeswax, pine resin and organic jojoba oil. They work just like cling film and are easy to mould and wrap for a great seal. Actually, I think that functionally they word better than the cling film I’ve had before as they properly grip. I don’t know about you, but I find that I have to wrap cling film over itself to actually get it to stick.
Benefits of a Cling Film Alternative
Just think of all that cling film that you go through and it all ends up eventually in the dump. These beeswax wraps are great as they are biodegradable. They’re also reusable, just give them a little wash in some cold water with soap and leave them to dry.
As a Mum, I do also worry about the effect of chemicals getting into the food I’ve wrapped. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland does state that it’s safe but only when used properly and some cling films aren’t safe for high fat foods like cheese.
Being 100% natural, these beeswax wraps are safe and great to be used as a reusable sandwich wrap, bowl overs and simply wrapping the huge blocks of cheese my boys get through so quickly.
