Vegan food seems to be the big thing going with people looking for healthier options. With so much chat around Veganuary I was keen to try some options, so what better way than to try it with a visit to Bill’s Restaurant in Newbury.
I always enjoy a trip to Bill’s Restaurant, they’re family friendly but the decor with it’s casual splash of glitz and contemporary twists makes it feel like a special occasion too. Read my review of Bill’s Restaurant Newbury here.
I usually go for a meaty dish at Bill’s and they certainly know how to make a great burger so I was intrigued to see if they could deliver their great looking and yummy dishes with vegan options.
While reading through the options, I sipped on a non alcoholic mixed drink, it was Monday night after all. The pear and ginger cooler was a treat with fresh mint, a gentle warmth from the ginger and sweet contrast of the pear.
There were lots of great options to choose from and I went for the Miso Aubergine Fritters as they are a limited edition only available during January. They were served with a smoked chilli and soy dip and topped with sesame seeds. They were so good, I’m hoping they add these to the menu as a regular.
Next up was main and I chose the Jackfruit Salad Bowl. The smoked chili jackfruit was bang full of flavour. Alongside, it segued perfectly with mixed grains and rice, edamame beans, red cabbage, toasted cashew nuts, lettuce and a tasty mint and lime soy yoghurt to finish it off. I loved the addition of a large crispy rice cracker.
My Mum came along with me and she went for the Beetroot Steak with fiery tiger fries. We ended up talking about how great our food was more than we actually caught up with news! Wonderfully tender and with texture, I made sure I sampled the beetroot steak too.
Whether you follow a vegan diet or you just fancy giving it a go, I’d highly recommend trying out Bill’s menu. Their special Veganuary menu is running right through until 31st January.
